Pioneer Logs Homes, located near Williams Lake, has been busy since December 1998 building a home to be shipped to Moberly Lake, just north of Chetwynd. The structure is a private residence of 52,000 sq. ft. No, that isn't a typo This massive home, on three levels is in fact larger than an acre, which translates to 43,560 sq. ft. Andre Chevigny, manager of Pioneer Log Homes confirmed the fact that the project has been employing 30 to 35 people in Williams Lake and another handful at the site. The house contains 27 bathrooms and 12 bedrooms, a cigar room, a wine tasting room, family rooms, and rec rooms. Some 43-truck loads of logs were sent up north to build the home dubbed the "Jewel of the North" by the owner. Built by an American husband and wife team, the house will be their family's summer resort for them and their four children. The handcrafted home was built with 24-inch diameter Western Red Cedar logs. One log in the house has a diameter of seven feet. While singer Barbra Mandrel boasted the largest log home in the world at 27,000 sq. ft., this home will defiantly surpass that. It is estimated the home will cost up to $9 million from start to finish. The couple is expected to move into their ne w home in one year's time. |
